Today was a leap day.
And since Fredrick in Pirates of Penzance was born on a leap day...
We had a birthday party for him before drama rehearsal today.
We had cupcakes and everything.
You know, the musical is looking more and more encouraging. We ran through a lot of the play today and we're pulling it off pretty well. We all wore our identical hardcore Pirates of Penzance t-shirts today, so maybe that's part of it.
I finally found my pirate character. Our director's been telling us how the pirates aren't acting that piratey and we need to get more into character.
A black paper cutout of a huge handlebar mustache and a few hours later: Charles Darasingh is BORN!!

Instead of being a tough-guy white pirate, I'm being a large hefty Indian pirate.

It really helps, because part of my problem was I was a reedy girl playing a guy playing a big tough pirate
That's cool by no means.
By being a character that is supposed to be very large and hefty, I unconsciously carry myself very deliberately and powerfully. (or so it seems to me. For all I know, I could be looking like an idiot) Even when I stand, the 'me' in the back of my head has noticed that all my motions and mannerisms are different.
So, at least one worry is out of my head.

Opening night is one week from today!!!

Oh, and speaking of productions, I went to go see Chicago the Musical at E.C. Glass yesterday.
O_O  OMGad. It was very well done. Terrific set, nice singing (bit of trouble with the head mikes!), and a really terrific orchestra. That high school always sets the bar for musicals in our town, and last night they definitely kept pwning at that.

Nakama is the Master of Ceremonies in the musical (he cut his hair!! Really REALLY weird, but it looks nice...) and he says that opening night, everything that could go wrong, did. A girl fell down the stairs during Cell Block Tango and her head mike went through her forehead. It's just that more dramatic and edgy when you're singing with a bleeding girl laying there at the end of the steps. She had to get some stitches, but otherwise she's fine.
And then the lectern from the courtroom scene tipped over from the very top stage level (which is quite a height) and almost hit a girl.
Good times.
But the play was good. A little bit risque with the half naked people dancing very... um... R-ratedly...
And Billy Flynn stripping as he was singing "All I Care About."
It didn't help that there were all sorts of nice old ladies with flower-print dresses in the audience...
awkward turtle doesn't even COVER it

But it was still a good musical and a damned good production. Good job Glass!!

You were there the same night my mom was there, then! XD She called me and was giving me all the low-down and talked about the girl falling during CBT.

And wow, risque + Will Ruehle = cognitive dissonance.... XD

What a marvelous coincidence even now I shall have to go off and fight for life and limb against evil half dragon pirates in D&D.

But I am never going to let you live down the "hefty indian pirate" remark, for the record. (And who wants a skinny, scrawny white pirate when you can have a hefty indian one anyway, eh? You guys have more incentive anyway what with that tea business, wot wot?)

I want hefty pirate pictures now. Durr...

And d00d, did you get the crap I sent you or did Yahoo eat it?
