Okay, so this is driving me crazy. There was a AE Inception fic that had Eames as the host of a television cooking show, and Arthur and Ariadne were fans who watched his show and went to one of his book signings. And I remember one of Eames's tv episodes featured him showing his viewers how to use various parts of a pig when cooking food. Of course this entailed him going to a local slaughterhouse and taking off his shirt so that he wouldn't get bloodstains on it, because Eames is shameless. For the life of me, I cannot remember the fic, and believe me, I have Googled every variation of "inception + fic + eames + cooking show"

So my harddrive crashed yesterday. This was not surprising. I'd been taking care of my suspiciously slow computer for a few days like it was a drunk friend from out of town, so I had piled it on top of frozen vegetables wrapped in dish towels and done a Restore Point so that I could pull all my files off. Still took forever, and I was up till like 4AM. Grumble grumble.

Unfortunately, engineering requires a great deal of proprietary software that I don't currently have on my loaner laptop, so I basically have to go into the labs to work, which is not cool, as I have a major homework due this week for Dark Arts. I am under a lot of frustration and work and sadfeels at the moment, so if anyone has any fic recs they would like to put forward, I would love to have something to come home and read at the end of a long and tiresome day.

Dammit, I had this great idea for three Reesefinch + Baby sketches, but I am such a crap artist, and nothing is turning out the way I want. Urrrg. I had three sketches in mind: The Reesefinchs (Reese and Finch looking confused while baby stares at them), Baby's Day Out (Reese carrying baby in sling while exchanging bullets in epic firefight), and Baby's First Steps (baby holding onto a robot and walking while Finch works on his computer).

They were going to be so perfect. I had them all in my head. Aggh, but alas, it is not to be.

UGH. We had our Defence Against the Dark Arts exam today. For those of you who don't know, our computer science department is amazing, and this is the name they gave our malware/cybersecurity class.

This exam was like taking a 3 hour exam in 50 minutes. It was just like...I mean, there are sections of the study guide THAT I WROTE UP that were on the test, and I still don't remember them, so I don't know what hope other people have. There were some questions where people just answered with "Really? REALLY? This?" and didn't even bother trying. Still it could have been worse.

Afterwards, a bunch of us from the exam went out to brunch and got drunk off mimosas. Aaaand my psych evaluation appointment is in an hour, so we'll see how that goes. I should be sober by then. Keyword: should.

Grrr

Number one unpleasant thing this week: People asking you to update or continue with stories that you've already finished. And not asking in a polite way at all. Either they haven't noticed the "The End," "Story Completed," and "Go Home Already" tags (which, as you may have noticed, increase by increments of desperation), or they're incredibly rude. I'm not sure which is worse.

I'm very sorry, but this is all I have to give. I have put a lot of thought into my work, and I am happy with the places that I decide to stop. I am not some kind of factory that will churn out stuff just because you ask. Why would you even THINK that? And I'm sorry, but it will take something more polite than a "Gud stuff. Plz continue. Kthx," to motivate me, boychik.

Aside: I have suddenly noticed that I use a lot of Yiddish slang in my posts, which is really weird, because I'm not Yiddish, nor am I surrounded by Yiddish people. It's a mystery.

Unless I'm mistaken, shouldn't the lyrics be "It's Friday I'm in love."

Warning: Asian drama

FUCK. Seriously? I know this is going to make me sound like a stupid teenager, but my parents just made me add them on Facebook and change my profile picture to one that they like (and that I totally hate). ARGH. All my friends are like, "Yeah, just tell them no, and you have your own privacy." LOLOLOL, Americans are so cute. Asians, you ALL know exactly what I am talking about. I can never go to Facebook ever again now. That Facebook is no longer my own.

Is it so BAD to have something that is just my OWN and NOT in their control or supervision? Apparently. This is after a giant speech about how much freedom they give me all the time. FUUUCK. They were all intense about it too, which was almost laughable if I hadn't been so pissed. Everything is taken so seriously. EVERYTHING. I remember once we went to Martha's Vineyard, and they asked me to send them the pictures I'd taken. The pictures that they criticised the entire time we were there? Okay, sure. But I kept forgetting to send them, and they went MENTAL. I got chewed out for TWO MONTHS. WHY? Whyyyy is this such a big crisis?

This is all because my cousin stalks my FB without telling me, and then tells his mom, who calls and tells my parents random shit. Yeah, we're that kind of family. ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME, COUSIN? I thought my generation is supposed to have each other's backs. No wonder you did shit on your college entrance exams.

How appropriate.

I've seen this in the media, and now I see it on LJ's fandoms too. Why the hell are you upping the rating because you're writing slash? If I see another post ON A SLASH COMM that says 'Warning: slash,' I will despair. Yeah, I get it. You don't want people who dislike slash to be surprised halfway through the story. But slash isn't a warning, it is a pairing. Put it under Pairings!

We've all seen this in the movies; even though I don't like those kinds of movies, I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry was apparently threatened with a higher rating if the two main characters had kissed. Really? ACTUALLY? Because yeah, that totally shows that all love is equal.

Everywhere is like "PG: heterosexuals doing the horizontal tango" and "R: gays exchanging meaningful glances across the room oh god cover the children's eyes and spare the pregnant women."

I am so sick of double standards.

AGHGH, so annoying. Boston Pride has Pride Week going on this week with all sorts of awesome. The LGBT Film Festival is sponsoring some films, and I was supposed to go yesterday, but OH WAIT, they haven't posted any information about it at all. I was seriously looking for like an hour on Google.

AND Boston had a storm with scary rain and wind today, and it took fucking FOREVER for the bus to come to the station. Where the fuck are you?! I disembarked from the station at 5:20, and the bus came at 6:15. WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS BULLSHIT?! I usually walk home because the buses are SUCK but it was POURING so I couldn't.

And oh yeah, guess what's going down tonight? Um, totally awesome multi-racial LGBT night. MY THING where I could have gone and found some friends to chill with. NOO. Because it is shit outside, and even if I go, I won't come back till like, midnight, and oh yeah, THE BUS, which took almost an HOUR DURING RUSH HOUR WTF?! will probably NOT SHOW UP EVER, and I'll have to walk home in the creepy dark. Haha, I'm not some kind of paranoid freak who thinks the world is out to mug me, but I'm not STUPID.

So yeah. I could be out drinking and wearing cute clothes and hitting on beautiful women. BUT NO BECAUSE PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION IS RIDICULOUS. BOSTON TRANSIT DOES NOT WANT ME TO BE BISEXUAL.

FUCK. *breathe* I guess I'll go make some more images for Endgame. (It's being cancelled unless we do something. Do something. For me.)

WTF, CLAMP

Unacceptable. I am not treating this end chapter of xxxHolic as canon till you do better.

I wasn't even like "whoo! Douwata!" because of course I knew they weren't going to do that. I'm not really "whoo!" anybody for this series, I just wanted a GOOD solid piece of closure, but this wasn't even a good piece of storytelling. It was creative, I'll give you that. But it wasn't solid, it didn't wrap things up well. You owe the story that, at least, even if you're understandably burned out from writing the same manga for years. (minus the hiatus when you were working on Tsubasa, I mean what?)

You know what? I'm actually excited to write xxxHolic fic now. Because I am encouraged to treat this story better, explore its universe and characters further, and give it a better (happier, sadder, funnier, WHATEVER) but a BETTER ending.

Lift your chin, fandom! Get out there and show CLAMP how it's done!

I'm not sure how many of you watch Castle. My suite has been following it for some time, mostly because I made them watch Firefly, and now we kind of TV stalk all the Firefly cast.
It's an interesting show- there were times I had wished it wasn't just The Castle and Beckett show, and we got to know some of the other characters. Like I swear, their other two partners Ryan and Esposito were sometimes just there as a Disembodied Voice (I know it's called something else on TV Tropes, but I have no idea how to find it) to bring up things that needed to be said in order to solve a case.

Now that Ryan and Esposito (aka Rosencrantz and Guildenstern aka The Two Stooges aka The Ambiguously Gay Duo) are getting more character development, S. Deaver, who plays Kevin Ryan has found the world of fanfiction.
WHY? WHY WOULD YOU EVER DO THAT? I thought everyone knew not to encourage the fangirls...(fan and fangirl are not the same thing. You know the difference. I would like to hold that it is the same with fanfiction and...I'm just making up a word here, fangirlfiction. But you know what I mean, because you can recognise 'fangirlfiction' when you see it, can't you?)

If I were an actor, I wouldn't want to KNOW what people were writing about me, and who they were writing me with. But apparently this is such an open joke that it's okay. People who I didn't think even KNEW about fanfiction knew about this and thought it was hysterical.

Proving that I am not the most adept cook ever, a look at the year's failed recipes that never made it to my journal:

Dango, Japanese dumplings with a soy dipping sauce. I used Indian rice flour instead of Japanese, and so the cooking time, texture, and taste were all completely wrong.

Chocolate souffle: I was going to christen my new ramekins by making something new. They were great, all puffy and looking legitimate...and then I took them out of the oven and they fell in and cracked and tasted weird.

I have some idea of what I did, I think. I don't like really sweet things, so I used considerably less sugar than the recipe called for, which not only made the cake taste bland, it also messed up the texture. I was also a bit paranoid about baking it because of the eggs in there, so I overbaked it, which made it too dry. This is a recipe I'm willing to try again. Might even make one of those chocolate volcano things, you know- the cakes with the molten chocolate in the center. Seems fairly easy from a theoretical standpoint. (famous last words)

I am drinking Tazo tea, and it is the worst tea I have ever tasted EVER. Tazo Passion should be outlawed by the Geneva convention under the cruel and unusual clause. I'm drinking Refresh right now (mostly mint) and it's o-KAY, but not great. Good mint tea is supposed to be light, but this feels really heavy. I feel a headache coming on just from drinking this stuff.

And on another note, WHAT THE HELL, XKCD?!

Where is Pluto?! I believed in you, Randall!

If I make it through this week, I will be so very VERY grateful. I should even be talking right now, I should be studying the hell out of the exams I have one after another this week. I spent three days studying for Differential Equations (tally it again, for the very last time) because I usually spend more time studying for math than other things.
Right now I'm studying for Circuits, which is beating me soundly, and tomorrow I have CS, which I'm not REALLY concerned about. Studying for a few hours today should suffice since I studied over the weekend, but I want to get a good grade in that class.

Then I have to record a Systems presentation with my group, which shouldn't be too bad. But then I have Digital Logic Design. (T_T) I haven't been able to study at ALL for that class, and I need to get a good grade. I guess I'll just study like hell today for Circuits, (going to office hours, so I need to finish the chapters) work on CS, and then study the life out of Digital Logic Design on Tuesday and Wednesday.

I HAVE NEVER BEEN THIS FREAKED OUT EVER

I'm really trying to look forward to Thursday night, when some people will be coming over to my place to watch Firefly/Stargate. I usually find out I'm staying late before breaks and send out a last minute email inviting people to come. This time I figured everything out early, so I sent the email yesterday. Hopefully too many people won't show up. My common room is only so big, after all, though these are the people I played Quidditch with on Halloween, so I'm sure if sci-fi is involved, they'll find a way to optimize capacity. ^_^

ARRG! I hate taking all math and science classes. Everyone is like, "Well, it's your fault for being in the e-school." People said that about nerd school back in high school. I want to kick them in the eye. There's challenging, and then there's RIDICULOUS. And then there's the engineer that told me he once took a class in the college, and the room beside him basically watched the Office every day for lecture.

Really? I mean, I understand they have difficult classes too, like Math and Science and Business (though I suspect I did mediocre in that economics class mainly because it always came second place to e-school classes, I couldn't help it. So working for that class had to be like an afterthought, and I couldn't enjoy it) but REALLY?

I actually had some significant stuff to say here that I totally forgot about. Such is the nature of anger and pathetic whining.

(end rant, going back to work)

AUGH!

I got the application done early and everything! I went to the post office today to get stamps and mail it.

Apparently it is a national holiday and the post office is CLOSED.

WHAT are the chances of that? A national holiday randomly falls on the day I actually want to send mail. I was so completely surprised, I thought the woman that told me was pulling my leg. SERIOUSLY. What kind of bad luck do I have that something like this happens to me? This is how it was a few weeks ago. I would have a sudden rush of bad luck, and then a rush of good luck. (I failed my lab yesterday, so I suspect this cycle's bad luck streak started yesterday. No! I got an infestation of bugs in the suite/my room starting about Saturday. We didn't know it was really bad till Sunday/Monday, when we realized we were all having the same problem. How do freaking fruit flies get in anyway? We didn't have a fruit fly problem for MONTHS.

And now suddenly I throw a way a piece of melon into the garbage and two hours later it's crawling with them. Ugh. I just used an empty cereal box to seal off the top of the garbage can so they'll stop flying all around my room. I have NO IDEA what i"m going to do to get rid of them. I have them all trapped basically. But...I don't want to open it now. XO

My friends say that since my bed has started eating my pencils and erasers (they're there, I leave for two minutes, I come back, they are GONE) and there is an infestation of fruit flies, it's probably like the end of days or something in my room. I'll let them know when my laptop starts crying blood.

Now I just have to start stalking this every day to see if I got in.

Almost done with math!! Ah-ha-ha-HAAAAA!!

I've completely messed up the last problem, because it deals with all sort of powers and trigonometric trickeries that I do not have the capacity to grasp at 3:55 in the morning. Hell, I'd have trouble with that problem if I were fully awake.

But I nailed all the other problems- apparently really late/early in the morning is Math Time for me. ^___^

Ahh, I have to shower and then get up at 8AM for a meeting. My next post will probably be about the U2 concert and the creepy townies/staties that are coming down for the music.

Who needs alcohol to feel drunk and loopy when there are problem sets to do?...

foolish_m0rtal: (Default)

Just found out CS project I thought was due next week is due this week/tomorrow. Aaand apparently there's a pre-lab I have to do for Electronics that I just found out about. AND there's this frakking long Systems Portfolio my group and I apparently have to finish by Friday by 5Pm before we all go home for break. So remember that thing about hubris coming back to bite from two posts ago? Um, yeah.

And the internet keeps cutting off at my university. Because I used to be ITC, people are bitching about it to me.

SO WHAT IF THE SERVER IS DOWN? WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO ABOUT IT?!

Most useful thing I could ever do is organise an angry mob. But I feel 'organised' and 'mob' are words that should not be put together. Unless we're talking about the Mafia.

On the plus side, I'm getting interviewed for a 12 week IT internship for Genworth Financial in Richmond, Virginia. So I'm going to be living away from home for three months again if I get it. *thinks* And I'll be away from home during winter break. Wow, I'm just not going home, am I?

I'm also potentially getting interviewed by Freddie Mac, so we'll see how that comes through.

Okay, back to differential equations. (Another check for NF-kun)

Proof that this class is taking over my mortal life: I've mentioned it 5 times in the past ten posts. Yup...yup...*fall*

foolish_m0rtal: (Default)
So this is hell week for engineering school. I have a differential equations (yes, tally it up, NF-kun) test tomorrow and a digital logic design test after that. You know that math hw I always bitch about? The one I barely get done at the end of the week even when I start on it on the weekend? Yeah, haven't even done that. Haven't had TIME to do that.

Doesn't help that I stabbed myself with a NAND logic gate during lab today.

Tried to pry it gently off the breadboard, and a pin went right through my finger. *sigh* Well,  at least now I've christened my circuit kit with ritual blood/now it is officially my kit and no one else will want it. ^_^

My suitemate also injured herself considerably more when her bike brakes stopped working as she was going around a turn just after it had rained. *wince* Not pretty.

And all the lights in the CS building went out today. We were just in a systems engineering class (don't ask) about a self-relient power-generating eco house, so we were running around shouting, "Not sustainable! What's wrong with this system?!" Even Systems majors make fun of Systems majors. That's only to be expected.

The electrical/computer engineering/computer science majors were celebrating, because this meant we weren't able to do any of our labs. Then, of course Hayden says, "Aww, the CS lab was going to be fun."

Fwoom, the lights come back on. Damn you, Hayden!

So I'm really tired and dreading taking these tests (especially Digital Logic Design, because my academic advisor teaches the class, and I want to make her proud  ^_^)

If I can get through this week, I feel we will be solid. Totally going to the foam party the Glee Club is hosting on Saturday night. Basically they have this huge foam machine that fillls the entire basement up with soapy foam. Like...a WALL of foam. Good clean fun.

Aand on a slightly disgustingly girly note, I got to hang out with a guy I've had a low grade crush on since first semester. Flippin' sweet.

My academic week as a manga strip:

Differential Equations is taking over my LIFE. That is seriously ALL I do all week- I can't enjoy any of my other classes. (Okay, so they're engineering classes, so 'enjoying' is a relative term. I like my Digital Logic Design and Computer Science classes).

Some of the problems take more than a page front and back. Some of them take an entire sheet of paper just to SET UP before I even start the goddamn problem. WHY? WHY?!

I also think I may have a cold. Suite mates are shunning me because they think I have swine flu. Not true! All lies! They're having me go to Student Health tomorrow so I can get checked out. T_T  I do not like teh needles and teh cold pokey fingers.

Hackers Attack Twitter, Facebook Also Slows Down

This article actually made me laugh. As some of you may know, I am openly contemptuous of Twitter in a way I am of little else:

- For Twitter users, the outage meant no tweeting about lunch plans, the weather or the fact that Twitter is down.

-"I had to Google search Twitter to find out what was going on, when normally my Twitter feed gives me all the breaking news I need," said Alison Koski, a New York public-relations manager. She added she felt "completely lost" without Twitter.

-In a blog post, Gawker said Tuesday it was attacked by "dastardly hackers," leading to server problems that caused network-wide outages Sunday and Monday.

-In fact, service outages on Twitter once were so common that management began posting a "Fail Whale" logo on the Web site to signal when the service was down. The logo featured a whale being hoisted above the water by a flock of birds.

NEW YORK – A hacker attack Thursday shut down the fast-growing messaging service Twitter for hours, while Facebook experienced intermittent access problems.

Twitter said it suffered a denial-of-service attack, in which hackers command scores of computers to a single site at the same time, preventing legitimate traffic from getting through.
