Bit of a setback
Jan. 11th, 2011 02:29 pmSo now that the second snow storm has hit us, the heater is on a lot, so unfortunately I think podfic will have to wait till a bit later. Sad times. Also, since I'm home now instead of at college, I think I need to stop writing so much, since my parents are asking questions like, "What exactly do you DO all day? Aren't you supposed to be studying for graduate school?"
and I can't exactly say, "Well, I write about steampunk Europe during the 19th century."
That will score me no points whatsoever.
I'll get the "It's all nice as a hobby and all, but you'll never get anywhere with this reading and writing rubbish. Go away and do some math, for god's sake" lecture again, which I made sure happened only ONCE in my young life about seven years ago when I was stupid enough to think my parents might appreciate me writing as a hobby instead of...I dunno, doing drugs or whatever else teenage delinquents do.
So as far as real life back at home is concerned, I only have constructive hobbies. No science fiction, no anime, no writing or blogging, some reading is tolerated occasionally as long as it doesn't go on for too long, no fantasy or science fiction literature at all, minimal internet.
Television is allowed. The world news, Jeopardy. A movie now and then. Jeopardy had the category Six-Syllable Words as a category yesterday, and one of the clues was literally "Legerdemain. Slight of hand." And I shouted "Prestidigitation! What the hell, Alex, stop reading my fiction!" at the television and almost spilled tea all over myself.
Anyway, I have to go now and pretend I've been working on Important Things for a few hours, which I haven't. God, I'm a lazy idiot, and the worst part is that I don't even care.
