What first got you into writing? And what do you like (about) writing the best? Who's your favorite author (published and on LJ/FP)? Favorite book? Favorite TV show? Favorite movie? When's your birthday? o____o

A) I've loved the fantasy genre for a long time, and I actually started out writing pure fantasy stories (badly ^__^). Early inspirations were Robin McKinley, Gail Carson Levine, Andre Norton, Jane Yolen, Tamora Piece, Patricia McKillip, and Diana Wynne Jones. (Yeah, I never really got into the male fantasy authors. Their books were boring to me for some reason. It was just all about wenches and muscle-y guys with swords. Bo-ring)

B) I love LOVE the characters best. I love following their adventures. They're really the ones that write the stories- I just write them down. I'm an almost absurdly private person when it comes to emotions, and I think it's almost cathartic for me to write because I can communicate things through that safe medium of Other People. This is probably also why I write a lot on the internet but seldom write in real life. I talk about what I write, but I never show it to other people. (I'm entering an original lit contest this year though for the first time. Really nervous!)

C) Mm, favourite author. That's hard. I like Neal Stephenson's ideas and style, though his pacing can be sluggish at times. I love how well-read and detailed Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett are. I love how Pratchett can make me laugh- I think that's important. I love how Diane Duane can still enthrall me after all these years. I used to be a voracious reader, but getting an Education has stalled that somewhat, and I'm unhappy about that. I'll get back to it soon, hopefully.
On LJ, I adore sheafrotherdon and speranza (her Written By the Victors is fucking BRILLIANT) in the Stargate Atlantis fandom, gyzym in Inception, and flakedice in xxxHolic. I could name some more, but those are the ones that come to mind.

D) Favourite book. Now THAT is even harder. I think I'm still in the process of finding my favourite book. I've been reading for a long time, and I'm still looking for that book that makes me say WOW. I was rendered speechless after turning the last page of Sandman. I used to be in love with Paolo Coelho's The Alchemist when I was terribly idealistic. I used to read Sherwood Smith's Crown Duel so many times that I had to buy a new copy, and she was probably another influence when it came to writing. The League of Extraordinary Gentleman and going back to reread His Dark Materials trilogy after all these years (as well as wondering where the hell all the engineers are in literature) are probably what got me interested in steampunk. I don't know. I'm still looking.

F) Favourite TV show? Haha, you can probably tell it's Firefly. I also love the witty intelligent dialogue in Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis. I have watched every Magic School Bus episode ever produced, and my roommate and I still watch it sometimes when we're feeling overwhelmed by the cares of the cruel world. ^__^ I don't really like 'chick flicks' but OKAY my one guilty movie is You've Got Mail. I've had such a torrid love affair with books my entire life- how can I not secretly watch this movie every time it comes on the television? Shh, don't spread it around! ;)

G) The History Boys. That's it. The History Boys. Wonderful, witty, beautiful. I can watch it again and again and still find something new worth thinking about.
Going more to the silly side, I like Young Frankenstein! The Fugitive is still my favourite action movie. The Lion King is still a CLASSIC. I still freak out at the wildebeest stampede scene. Haha, I promise you I am above whatever age you think I am right now.

H) My birthday is January 23.
