So I'm cleaning out an old set of desk drawers because I'll be moving the desk into a shared flat next semester. Things I have found: confederate money, sketch books, shuriken, a box full of floppies, laboratory goggles, enough material to make three beaded hemp necklaces with matching bracelets.
Mardi Gras beads and a compass. What? And now I just found 5 kyats, and the back says Union Bank of Burma. Burma doesn't exist anymore...

Man, I was an interesting person before I began prepping for college and had to make choices about what I was interested in. (And now that I've given up everything I cared about in pursuit of a single goal, I'm miserable and have no goals in life. Life lesson here, people. All those classic writers knew what they were talking about)

So as you can probably guess, I'm down at my only desktop that still has a floppy drive, and I'm currently going through floppies trying to figure out what's still on them. I forgot the clicking sounds the floppy makes when it's modifying or calling up documents, but I remember it now. Oh, childhood.

The floppies. Oh. Man.
Just to give you an indication, I found a filled out application form for University of Virginia engineering summer camp from ten years ago. Under the Tell Us About Yourself, I have written "I collect stamps and coins, and I like to read." No, this person has not changed at all in ten years, she has just learned to hide the pain. XD I LOVED collecting. I collected everything, shells, coins, stamps, rocks (my mom gave away my rock collection a few years ago, sniff. That's a lifetime's worth of collecting. I hope that little girl takes good care of my stuff. I, of course, screened her before I let her have my collection. She's cool.), everything. Now I've just become more refined (this is the part where you all laugh), and now I collect things like dystopian novels or certain old editions of a book series. I'm still working on collecting old Victoria Holt/Jean Plaidy/Philippa Carr books. I'll start working on that once I actually have a steady job and a flat of my own to store my books.

Ahem. Back to the floppies? DUDE. There is the most random fanfiction on there. And original fiction. Guess who's deleting incriminating evidence? Yup. Years ago, the best thing about buying a laptop for college was getting the cryptically named (System file 001-00x for any value of x) off the family desktop and onto my laptop, where I could write as I pleased. And apparently stupid me left breadcrumbs in the floppy disks, thinking the shared desktop didn't have a floppy drive and I would be cool. Tsk, rookie mistake. Rookie.

Original fic. Dude, where do I start? I am so tempted to post some for bad!fic because it is so amazingly bad!fic. Bwahahaha, ooh I'm going to do it. This is stuff from like, ten years ago. You do not even know the meaning of lolarious. The best part, the best most amazing part is that the computer is so old that the only way I can get stuff from the floppy to my laptop is to burn a CD. (Oh man, we thought we were so cool, installing a CD burner on this thing. We built this desktop ourselves, so we modded it a little. For instance, it runs Windows 98. Ohh yeaah) We even bought some RW-CDs for it. The only thing it doesn't have is USB ports, because back then the hardware didn't support USB, and besides the technology was so expensive that what the hell were plebs like us wanting with USBs anyway? Pffft.

So, you may ask, did young Fumu write all of her bad!fic in 14 pt. Garmond? You betcha, cause your young Fumu was a classy muthafucka. There is also a backup of one of my most prized bad!fics that has the date, a note that says this is a backup, the name of the bad!fic (Child of War, for interested parties) and my name, both printed in full and then signed above. Young Fumu was clearly made to be a bureaucrat. Apparently I learned subtlety and the art of naming important secret files after System Files later on in life. Though, I also found Courageous Fire, Dark Priest, and The Angel, all labeled in plain sight. Stupid young Fumu. But that begs the question of how I got those files onto floppies before we built the Floppy Disk CD Burning Windows 98 Wonder. Mysteries for another day, I fear.

It's sad, but I did jsut this too? Finding floppies, I mean~ (Windows 98 SE runs USB, by the way. SO CLOSE.)

Naming your stuff after system files is MAD CLASSY, though. I didn't think of that. I just seem to get saved by my magpie clutter. You'd have to go through like...five ironically named messes of folders to even find my stuff in the midst of what seems to be a collection of other authors works.

(Man I so want to see your badfic now, though. I bet it's loads better than my stuff. Because your fanfiction springs fully-formed and awesome out of the ehad of Zeus like that...)
