Dude, so I've been getting DVDs for Black Friday, and they're slowing being mailed from Amazon. I accidentally had them sent to my parents' house instead of mine, so my dad keeps sending me emails about which packages have arrived.

In today's email, he wrote, "Last two DVDs came today. Fast and the Furious and Drop Dead Gorgeous. Watched the first one. Nothing spectacular. Paul Walker is expressionless." (You know he hates this actor if he actively goes to find his name from IMDB.) He randomly turns into Roger Ebert at times, and I'm not sure how I can explain that Fast and the Furious isn't for watching, it's for drinking games.

Now, I've been a reasonable person and have been telling them which DVDs to watch, things I know they'll enjoy. It's their fault they haven't been listening to me. But let's look at the DVDs I ordered (for ridiculous cheap) and see my motivations for buying them.

To make a better skeleton for this comparison (can you tell I've been working on my engineering thesis), let's give it some metrics: Ho Yay Factor and Intelligent Plot.
  1. The Fast and the Furious: ("My brother likes you. Usually he doesn't like anybody.") Ho Yay > Plot
  2. Tinman: ("Good morning, sweetheart.") Ho Yay <= Plot
  3. Inception ("Go to sleep, Mr. Eames.") Ho Yay < Plot Sorry, fandom, much as I love you.
  4. X-Men First Class (Anything involving Charles and Erik sharing screentime) Ho Yay > everything
  5. The Hitcher 1986 ("You're a smart kid. You'll figure it out.") Ho Yay == Plot Holy shit, guys, you cannot have one without the other.
  6. Drop Dead Gorgeous (This whole film) Deadpan Black Humour > all the things, No Ho Yay (For all you code savvy people, !Ho Yay)
One of of six is not bad at all. I keep telling them to watch Inception, and my dad say my mom is probably going to fall asleep during the film. He doesn't understand why I burst out laughing.

My path to shameless shipping is a complex one.

LOLOLOL

Yeah, parents can be difficult to explain to regarding things like that.

XMFC's HoYay is indeed > everything.

There is only one drinking game rule For Fast and the Furious: Every time Dom and Brian share a homoerotic moment.

You would do a better job staying sober if you drank every time there were cars.

I thought I was the only one who loves the Hitcher - such a hot movie. I was disappointed when I tried to find fanfic and only found stories for the remake.

I adore The Hitcher! Rutger Hauer is so much love.

I'm in the middle of writing a fic for it right now and hope to have it done in time to submit to smallfandomfest.

I did a fandom pimp for the film at Small Fandom Fest here (http://smallfandomfest.livejournal.com/423313.html) if you're interested in finding some other fans.

I look forward to reading it - I was going to nominate it as a fandom for Yuletide, but the kind of fic I would write wouldn't be very 'Christmasy', if you know what I mean. I've always wanted to write an AU scene of the windy barn, when RH walks in on Howell...

Do it. Peer pressure. There really is a thread on the rareslash comm that is perpetually in wait for Hitcher fic. We are a sad collective, but we could be so much more!

I would read the hell out of that fic, and they would to!

Well, it took me three years to write my Sam/Megatron story but I eventually got around to it...maybe after I get my Yuletide fic finished.
