Ethics and Politeness
Dec. 19th, 2011 08:41 pmSo I'm not sure what to do here. I was on Fanlore and discovered that The Fugitive used to have a decent fandom when it first came out. I would LOVE to see some of this fic again, but it was all published in fanzines, so most of it is not online.
How okay would it be to contact some of these fic writers and ask if they would be willing to put some of their stuff online? I don't know if they've received these requests before and would therefore be angry at my perceived 'fan bothering' or whether they would be amenable to it. It would really be a shame to lose the famous founding pieces of this fandom.
Along this vein, how large is the push for early fan zines to put their stuff online now that online storage and story hosting is simpler? How much of early fanzine-based fandoms are losing fic? The Man from UNCLE, for example, would have been very zine based, but they have a large and wonderful store of online fic. How does this happen?
