Podcast of Interest
Feb. 29th, 2012 02:50 amOkay, so has anyone listened to the Podcast of Interest series? Apparently it's for free on iTunes. A few problems present themselves:
1) It's on iTunes, and I swore never to download that. I don't want that shit taking over my music.
2) People are really mixed about the podcasts. Some people think they're great, others say they've given it a chance and listened to 10 podcasts, and they still think it's terrible.
3) It's done by two guys, so I'm afraid the entire thing is going to be discussions of manpain and boobs. I am so much more entertained by podcasts when they're done by fangirls who are having fun. I feel like dudes would be like, "Welcome, bros. Today we will be discussing various themes in the lives of these two extremely straight characters. Blah blah boring."
But it might not be. I think /report has spoiled me a bit in terms of wonderfully amazing fannish podcasts, but I might give Podcast of Interest a chance and listen.
Also, this image is extremely relevant to my thoughts on Caviezel.

Date: 2012-02-29 08:46 am (UTC)Because I'm getting to that point where I honestly can't tell anymore. It's why I tried to watch some other Caviezel stuff to get a baseline. Here's the thing: Reese isn't supposed to super emote. It FITS that Caviezel is kind of flat and wooden and broody Batman-like. But at the same time, there are moments when I wanted MORE from him. Like, fuck, you're saying that you haven't caught up, and I have no idea where you're at, so I'm worried about spoiling, but let's just say there are moments when I really could've done with more from Caviezel. BUT THEN YOU GET MOMENTS LIKE THE END OF 1.05 WHERE REESE HAS HIS LITTLE SMILE AND HE'S COVERING HIS MOUTH AND IT'S JUST PERFECTION. And there are moments like that, where he has an expression that's just perfect, and I'm like DO YOU SUCK OR DO YOU NOT I CAN'T TELL.
In conclusion: THE FUCK CAVIEZEL
why do I have so many fucking feelings

This. So much. But then there's Finch, who is pretty much the rare and perfect archetype dapper-hacker and a combination of so many elements that I love. But I'm less LOLWHUT with Michael Emerson, because I know he's solid.
But still. I might have to fan more about Finch in the future.

Date: 2012-02-29 03:50 pm (UTC)And there are. I KNOW dudes (okay, more like one) in fandom, and it's totally awesome, but I do assume most of the people in fandom are women, especially I think in a slash context.
I am okay with listening to dudes talk about tv shows, but not their fandoms. Is that weird? What do you think about it?
Re: oh also
Date: 2012-02-29 06:33 pm (UTC)Basically, the whole world is essentially men being smug about themselves, and fandom is one of the few places where it's women-dominate, women's interests are validated and I'd rather go read 100 LJ entries by other fangirls squealing over PoI, where our interests align and we can talk about Caviezel being hot while also discussing the themes of the show, rather than two dudes podcast about it, who will most likely NOT talk about how hot Caviezel is and probably act very smug about themselves and their brilliance.

Date: 2012-02-29 07:04 pm (UTC)I think women are also great at dealing with possibilities and themes and hilarity, which is I think what draws them to fandom. We're not afraid to make fun of the fandoms and ourselves and let the show be whatever we want it. Whereas guys tend to just take what the show already states at face value and rehash it. I think they're good at recaps of a show, sometimes even hilarious ones. But not so good in fandom.
