Laptop restored

foolish_m0rtalSo my laptop is back. Turns out it was overheating due to some problems with the fan, so it was engaging all the slowdown and shut off protocols appropriate to the situation to make sure nothing inside would melt. This also explains why I was able to get the computer to boot after cooling it down and keeping it cold with the piles of frozen vegetables and my hair-dryer on its cool setting.
The people in the shop cleaned out the fan (just give me a new fucking fan. I HAVE paid a warranty for the past four years. Grumble grumble), and now it seems to work fine. I moved everything back from my external and made sure everything was shipshape and Bristol fashion with several clean-ups and anti-virus, disk, and update scans. Thanks to everyone for the lovely fic recs and well wishes!
