A bunch of us who watch Sherlock in our college and are part of the local Sherlockians group on Facebook decided to get together and watch the series 2 finale, since we would probably be a danger to ourselves alone. So we decided to watch at the LGBT Resource Centre (Just because a lot of us are connected to it. I don't know how this happened.) with plans to go back to someone's place to drink and cry later. We had it all planned: the kind of ports the RC television had, the wires and laptop we would need.
Unfortunately, we didn't anticipate that the actual building would be locked. We tried going to the library to watch. I missed a step on the Darkened Staircase that everyone complains about but no one ever fixes with proper lighting. I landed on my ankle and tried to make it to the library without passing out. I am glad I had a buddy with me, but I am definitely sure the man at the front desk thought I was on drugs from the way I was sweating and shaking. Then I ran off to faint on the couch, but then I was fine. (It's my unlucky ankle, and this happens to it a LOT.) Unfortunately, the library was closing in ten minutes. We decided that our university was aceist. :D
By that time, everyone else showed up, and a nice member who had graduated a few years before offered up his flat, which gave us the added bonus of vodka lemonades and the opportunity to meet his two kittens, who really helped us make it through Reichenbach. Hugging a kitten and crying? Check check. On the way to the house, we were able to discuss our obsession with fandoms at length. One of my friends says she is grateful that I created the Sherlockians group because it makes her feel less alone. I wholeheartedly agree. It was WEIRD to actually meet the people that I interact with on Sherlockians. Like, they're actual people...
We finally got everything set up, and I got my handkerchief out. Everything was fine. We were emotional and sitting on the edge of our seats, it was fine. The video kept lagging and buffering at random intervals, which actually helped us out, because it gave us time to reflect, gather our pile of feelings, and eat some snacks.
Now I go into helpless fanning:
( huge spoilers )
As I mentioned, many of the people on the Facebook on-campus Sherlockian group are also connected with the LGBT Resource Centre for reasons unknown. So after the showing when we were sitting around eating sweets and emoting everywhere, we just lapsed into reminiscing about old LGBT times at the university, and my one token straight friend that I'd brought along was incredibly amused.
During the discussion, I mentioned that I thought the member of the important family with Irene Adler in the beginning of "Belgravia" was Kate Middleton, and how I wasn't able to focus on the rest of the episode because I was too busy shipping them. Middler is now our group's headcanon: we don't care if it's libel.
All in all, wonderful showing. I'm glad we were able to organise an event, and I'm sure we'll be meeting again sometime this year to keep each other alive and sane enough for Sherlock Series 3 next year.
