The thing I really miss about LJ fan communities vs living on a tag is the ability to navigate posts. So many posts intro on tumblr with "not sure if this has been done yet", because there's no way to establish precedence and fannish history with a feed.

Did LJ have a feed-like queue of posts from various members of the community? Sure! But with a consciencious mod, we also had post tags for fanart, prompts, headcanons, aus. Apart from a stronger messaging system (and a way to identify unique people who change their usernames [though, if you want to establish yourself in a fandom, I don't know why would you change your name]), that's the thing I miss most.

I think having an open searchable method of navigating posts also eases tension on fanwork creators who are afraid their content will be forgotten or stolen, because it's pushed to the bottom of the tag stack and only sees the light of day if it's redistributed into people's feeds via reblogs.

I see a bunch of prompts and art ideas, fic ideas, meta, that is rehashed over and over because the people who have similar train of thought can't find each other's content, which is a real shame. I think we have to figure out a way to make fandom more collaborative instead of consumerist, which is really difficult with how the tumblr UI is structured. If I'm off tumblr for a while, I feel like I miss out on content that will be gone forever from my sight once I come back, because finding it requires going through every post on a tag.

Anyway, I dunno, I feel like we all have this reaction whenever a fandom communication platform changes, so maybe this is just me being like "ohh you young fandom platforms" or whatever.

I'm not a fan of tumblr at all for that very reason. It feels like a bunch of people just yelling at each other with very little actual conversation.

Speeeaking of fandom, weren't you and I in Warehouse 13 fandom together? Jinks/Joshua Donovan fic, I think? I was just rewatching old Warehouse a few days ago! Gosh, I miss it so much! Why didn't that show get a million spin-off series, Stargate style? What an absolute shame. It was such a charming show. Did you watch the last season? I was warned not to...

We were and Jinks/Joshua is totally my end game. It was an amazing show with great story lines and wonderful characters. I really miss it.

I did watch the last season and it was good. It needed more Joshua or some at all really. Also there was some shipping stuff that might be upsetting depending on where you fall out with Pete and Myka.

I didn't remember how much I missed it till I watched it again. Even listening to the opening theme again made me teary-eyed.

I love that you have an appropriate icon, hahaha. Fantastic!

Last season was only 6 episodes, right? I remember reading that they made Pete/Myka suddenly canon, which was a bit inconsistent with previous episodes in the series.

I really do think this show is far too interesting a concept to stay in the annals of history forever. If that means there's a "Warehouse 14" or something similar, well, this kind of succession is built into the mythology of the Warehouse anyway. I was a bit disappointed that the H.G. Wells show didn't pan out when Jamie Murray went to Defiance. (I haven't watched it myself, mostly because all the writer and creator interviews for the pilot seemed kind of...high fantasy in the one dimensional way they classified their alien races. "This is the ___ people, and they are good smiths and short tempered", etc. I can't read stories where the writer is more obsessed with world-building than the characters. (this is after growing up reading nothing but high-fantasy and finally hitting a saturation point). However, I'm happy to be dissuaded if you've watched it and recommend it!)

It was such a great show and there was still a lot of stories to tell. Yeah, it was a short season. Basically SyFy decided to cancel, but there was such a backlash that they agreed to let them have half a season to wrap things up.

I don't think I've ever seen Defiance, it didn't appeal to me at all.
