"Illustrator Robert Ulman of Atom Bomb Bikini has a nice idea :
recreate your favorite imaginary comic book covers. His take :
Watchmen’s Silk Spectre, with Nite-Owl, Captain Metropolis and
Hooded Justice on a Flash Comics parody."

Unfortunately, I've seen some of his stuff, and don't bother with the rest of it. It's really...awkward. ('Awkward' being the only word I can probably say without dying in embarrassment). Ergo, why I removed the link to his site. I KNOW you can still Google it. Don't.

From the original comic:

So what did you think of the movie? Have you read the book?

yes, I've read the book many many times. :)

Um...I felt like it was a good attempt, and if anyone had to direct it, Zack Snyder would be my guy. But no cigar.
I agree that Watchmen is gritty and violent, but I felt like some of the violence etc that he included in the movie was a little gratuitous. (I will NEVER be able to listen to "Hallelujah" again. Speaking of which, some of the music used in the scenes seemed to charge in instead of sneaking around. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. Clever idea including old songs from the era, but it was sometimes jarring.)
The opening sequence detailing the lives of the Minutemen was awesome! Carla Gugino as the Silk Spectre I was WIN. So was the Comedian. I actually felt like I understood more about Dan after watching Patrick Wilson's performance. There's this underlying nerdy guy that I never saw before. VERY cool action sequences, I must admit. Especially the jump kick.

The ending made sense for the sake of simplifying the movie, but I missed my alien squid.

There was a slow melancholy thoughtfulness to the comic that would be really impossible to communicate through the movie with the kind of plot Watchmen has. I feel like the movie had reflective moments, but unlike with the comic, we didn't have time to step back and let it stew. It was more...clumsy in that respect.

All in all, good attempt. Even though I do watch rated R movies, this movie made me a little uncomfortable. Maybe this is a good thing? We should always have things around that make us uncomfortable, shake us out of our molds. But the ideas in it should make us uncomfortable, not the violence and content. This isn't really a movie I would buy and watch over and over again. Looking forward to watching the Black Freighter and Under the Hood DVDs, though.
