Wata-nuki-kuuuun
Sep. 19th, 2009 10:59 amAhh, new chapter of Holic is out. Mog and I have discussed this at length. Notice how the scene when Doumeki enters the shop (the shot makes his jacket sleeve look like a school uniform) mirrors the chapter where Watanuki enters the shop for the first time. Sometimes almost shot for shot. Interesting how the more things change, the more they stay the same. I know fansubs can be a little off, but eerie how if you switch the dialogue for this chapter with the first one, you step back and say YES.
Because if you switch, then when Watanuki enters the shop that first day, Maru and Moru instead say "Welcome home," as if it is preordained that he will be shackled to this place. When Doumeki enters, it becomes, "Welcome. You are Master's guest." (Word for word. A typo? Seems strange) I thought that was odd in the beginning because it's not usually a title for a woman, but maybe Maru and Moru don't necessarily live in time the same way we do? I'm probably making way too much out of this.
This manga keeps getting sadder and sadder- the ending has to be either happy or beautifully futile. I feel that's the only way Clamp can do it justice. I feel like it's going to pull a Godchild and make me cry at the end. (why, Godchild, why? I knew it was coming, but why?!)
Speaking of why, Claaamp, give me back my Gohou Drug!
Speaking of Godchild, the anime Kuroshitsuji is creepily like Godchild/Count Cain saga. Same dark violent murder mystery-like plots, Victorian era, and then a dude with his unflappable butler. Except for the fact that if they ever did a blatant Ciel/Sebstian undertone like they did a Cain/Riff undertone in Godchild,
<spoiler> (they die in each others arms, for gods' sake) </spoiler>
I would possibly put out my eyes.
Shotacon= NO, NOT EVER
But there are remarkable similarities nonetheless, no?

C-reepy.
And 500 yen says Doumeki transferred from science to folklore so he can free Watanuki. (I would say those guys take 'an eye for an eye' way too seriously, but they've already done that...)
Right now, I'm getting into Mirage of Blaze, which is apparently light BL, but nothing's happened yet so I feel like it's fine. It's just so fascinating because it's teeming with Japanese history. The characters are reincarnations of warlords from the feudal era who are born every generation as exorcists in a battle against the malicious spirits of the past. The research that goes into these stories is impeccable. I've learned so much about Japanese history already. ^_^ I was told that fansubs only had 4-6 episodes out on the internet, so that's where I stopped all those years ago, but I happened to stumble across it yesterday, and they're up to 16! Yay!
Speaking of anime I'm getting into, can anyone tell me if there's a better site than megavideo to watch Kyo Kara Maoh? Mega is the best right now because the other places either don't load or have a lot of missing episodes.

Ah-ha-HA, BEAUTIFULLY said.
Yes, I do admire his stubborn defiant streak. Sometimes he does it better than Watanuki, perhaps because we don't expect it from Doumeki as much. Or maybe they're just two sides of the same coin.
Someone tells Watanuki he can't do something, and he yells and waves his arms in a flurry of "Who the hell do you think you are- etc etc."
Someone tells Doumeki he can't do something and he's just like, "No."

Date: 2009-09-21 05:57 am (UTC)Actualy, during that my fav part was when Watanuki comes over and Doumeki sort of casualy tries to hide what he's up to. XD I was like "Doumeki, are you being SHY about it? Don't want Watanuki to know you want to help him?"
:P Glad it amused you.
That's true. lol You really don't. And he's so calm about it too.

Date: 2009-09-29 06:35 am (UTC)YES! Where's Watanuki's like, "Hey, what's up?" and Doumeki's oh so very casual about it. Perhaps he's catching onto the whole price and debt concept. Forget Yuuko, Watanuki and Doumeki have enough debt between them to last as many lifetimes as Watanuki's prepared to live.

Date: 2009-09-29 06:58 am (UTC)Actualy, my second-cousin, who's eleven now, totaly saw the WataDou in Holic watching it with me. XD First she was like "Oooh! She's so pretty!" <--Referencing Watanuki. And then I was like "Thats a guy..." And then she said "Oh? So then he and the other guy are gay?" I was like "O.O N-No... (Innerself:YES!!!)". XDD (We were watching the one with the hydrangea. lol) And at eleven, she is totaly accepting of same-sex relationships which floored me. (That girl is more mature than most adults I know. I swear...)

Date: 2009-09-29 01:29 pm (UTC)Kids can be totally open minded and accepting about stuff because they don't have any kind of societal background on it to fall back to. My parents had never said a word about gay people to me when I was younger, so when I heard there was such a thing, I was like, "Okay. Whatever. That's cool." But that's when I was older. That your cousin is so mature at 11 is remarkable.
Though it's surprising what can influence people growing up. I've seen the most liberal people come from the absolute most conservative families, and vice-versa.
Haha, it's Watanuki's own damn fault for being so pretty. The hydrangea one! I remember that one. I was reading the forums and one girl's MOM got into Holic and was suddenly like, "Hey, does Douemeki love Watanuki?" Pretty sure the same external ("NO!") internal ("YESSS!!") went on. ^0^
Um...just don't watch the...oh my, what episodes of second season Holic DON"T have 104 in them? Ahh, the last episodes with Himawari-'s curse freaked me out so much. Like when Himawari-chan slides aside the door after seeing Watanuki, and you see Doumeki propped against wall covered in blood. I shouted something like, "OH. MY. GODS" and pissed off my neighbours. Amazing how much I did that while watching anime.

Date: 2009-09-30 12:54 am (UTC)I'm proof of that. My mother is totaly down on all sorts of things that I just accept openly. *Shrugs*
It was hilarious. You wouldn't believe how many of my family members didn't know he was a guy... o.o I was like "Seriously? You thought he was a GIRL? I know he's pretty but come on! XD" It cracks me up because some of them can tell that charactors like Raenef or Tsukasa are boys... (And those two had me confused for a bit! I was convinced Raenef was a chick until Eclipse called him sir or sire or something. O.o)
My mom's into it, kind of. She's watched most of the episodes of the first season with me. And the movie. But she likes to pick on Watanuki's name. XD And she always needs me to explain some things to her. But I can see her now watching Doumeki slam Watanuki up against a wall. ~.~; She used to insist some of the Yugioh cast was gay for a whole lot less....
I was crying at that point. Her story always makes me cry. T.T Oh Himawari-Chan... I absolutly ADORE her.
