Neiman Marcus bars
Oct. 8th, 2009 08:37 pmDon't ask me why they're called Neiman Marcus bars. The guy who gave me the recipe called them this, and I feel whoever gives you the recipe has the rights to name it.
After I gave this to my engineering friends and they devoured them, I was not convinced. (Engineers are always hungry)
After I gave this to a friend, and her eyes went all wide and she said, "Hmmmphghr," I was sure this was something I should post up here.
This slightly sweet dessert is a longstanding family dish, and is usually made for guests when they come to visit. Said guests usually demand this dessert every time they come to visit afterward, and when we come to visit them. And even when we're not actually visiting them, but we're in the area, we always stop by with a tin full of these...

1) Hand/spoon mix dry cake mix, 1 egg, butter, and pecans. Don't use the electric mixer on this.
2) Evenly press mixture into greased 9x13 pan for crust. I usually add the pecans last instead of mixing them in at Step 1, and then press them into the batter after I've pressed the batter evenly into the pan.
3) Mix cream cheese, 2 eggs, and sugar with electric mixer until smooth. Pour mixture over crust.
4) Bake at 350 for 45 minutes. Make sure middle has set. Top should be slightly golden brown. (see picture) It's going to look all puffy and cracked and cake-like, but wait till it cools completely. Then it will settle down and become more dense. After it is cooled completely, you can cut it into bars. (See my Subtle Knife up top. That thing is REALLY sharp, and I am alternately worshipful and afraid of it)
