Pre-Japan Freak

foolish_m0rtalArg! It's so annoying that I'm leaving May 25th. The guy I'm flying with kept trying to find really early tickets. I appreciate that we're trying to beat Memorial Day weekend, but he seemed like he wanted to get the fuck out of dodge, because the tickets he found leave early May and come back early August, whereas I'd wanted to leave in June and come back end of July. We were supposed to stay 8 weeks and we're staying 11. I mean, jeez, we have to pay room and board over there each month!
And he's like oh, I've already got a connecting flight from my city to the flight to Japan, because my parents don't want to drive to D.C. so I felt really bad shooting down his plan even though I had a similar roundtrip ticket deal for about the same cost on June 2.
But really? GAAHH! Because now I have to clear everything with the professor I'm working with, get the forms in from the university (who seemed a little pissed, as pissed as the Japanese can get in a polite email, anyway, that we were coming so early on such short notice. Yeah, you and me both, dudes), and hope to god they don't look at my transcript and tell me to piss off. Because this semester wasn't exactly the best. (Probability, shudder. CS2150, shudder shudder)
Plus, I have no idea how the dorms are over there. Like, will I be rooming with people? Do we keep our own places clean, like at UVa upperclass housing? Or not, like underclass? I'm also kind of freaked out that I'll come off looking like and idiot, because I work on the principle that people abroad are vastly more intelligent. (not some kind of anti-American prejudice, but I'm from India and see how hard Indian kids work at getting into college. Japan, very similar)
But NOW our plane tickets are booked, so I don't know what's what. @_@ And they said students don't have to know the first thing about research, but then what the hell am I supposed to do in the lab? I just...blarg.
