So with the ingredients I bought yesterday, I was able to make a legitimate Japanese breakfast, complete with tea (barley, because it's cheaper), miso soup, and natto wrapped in rice and nori. At first I was a bit wary to natto because it's definitely not an Indian taste, and it's not something America has, but today I found it really delicious! And even with such a seemingly small breakfast, I'm really full! I think it's the fermented soybeans. For breakfast when he was a boy, my grandfather used to drink the water leftover from soaking rice, hot and mixed with salt and clarified butter. Apparently that was very filling too.

I had the natto wrapped in the rice and the nori this time, which might have made a difference. Unlike yesterday, the rice was cold, which might have been a factor. (I thought I ruined the rice yesterday, but it's perfect today! I need to figure out how to cook it without creating a huge mess at the bottom of the pan, though. I found instructions on how to cook Japanese rice, which is very different from how I cook Indian rice. So I think we're okay)

And I had extra rice leftover, so I made onigiri as a snack for later.

I didn't have any fillings, so I pressed black sesame seeds into the back for flavour (you can see some of them in the front). Why is it that Japanese rice is delicious on its own? Indian rice is fragrant and it's not terrible to eat plain, but it's not too appetizing either. It tastes a lot better with curries or things mixed in it. Who knows, maybe I'm just not used to eating it plain.

Next time I'm going to try and get some fish. (I'll either have to ask my mother or find some kind of how-to guide online)

At 1PM, all the international kids are going to the Shibaura campus to attend a talk about job search in Japan. We're then going bowling and out to dinner. Sounds like fun!
I hope we're not going out for ramen. The people that I hear talking about going to nightclubs and random places only foreigners go (like Roppongi, apparently), which is totally embarrassing, have only ever talked about going out for ramen. Like, there's nothing else out there? Granted, ramen over here is really good, but really? Hopefully I can ask Izumi-san where she recommends getting takoyaki, which is something I've always wanted to try. There's octopus in the Seafood section of Belc, but it's raw, and I don't know how to cook it.
