You're in luck, x_mog. I'd actually been entertaining this story for a while, and had been putting it off because I didn't want to write a great long thing. So you get a doodle (which I'd finished but was waiting to pair with the story) and a drabble- sweet!

Title: Inheritance
Fandom: xxxHolic
Characters: Watanuki, Doumeki, Himawari
Rating: G
Summary: There are some things Watanuki doesn't want to know
Notes: for [livejournal.com profile] x_mog  for the Doodle Drabble Meme

“Don’t you want to know who she was?” Yuuko had asked him, but Watanuki didn’t ask.

He didn’t want to see the woman he’d met in the park as anything other than what she’d been to him- he didn’t want to know her name.

He didn’t want to ever see that particular little frown on Himawari’s face again, the expression that had made her look sad and old with one hand resting gently on his back as he’d coughed and coughed and couldn’t stop. It was the first time she’d shown it to him, but he knew there were other times when she thought he wasn’t looking, and he couldn’t bear to ask her why. Because she was bright and beautiful and he always found himself turning his face up to her presence and following her wherever she went as if he were the flower and she the sun.

He didn’t want Doumeki to know he’d been awake that night after he’d been in bed recovering from the strange consumption the woman had given him. When Doumeki had spoken to Yuuko in a low voice in the next room and then come in silently. When he’d put his clenched fist on top of Watanuki’s chest and said, “Don’t you dare do that to me ever again,” and Watanuki had felt his hand trembling even through the sheets and his warm breath stirring his hair.

And Watanuki had wondered if Doumeki was going to kiss him. Except he hadn't wanted to know that either, so he'd turned his head and made a sleepy sound. And then Doumeki had just stood up and walked out silently, leaving Watanuki feeling both satisfied and frustrated because Doumeki never gave away a thing, which was absolutely fine. Except when it wasn't.

And he especially didn’t want to know about the woman Himawari called great-aunt, who had been lost long ago after the death of her only child by some strange illness the doctors had not been able to diagnose. She had been a strange woman, people had said, but pitiable. A widow so soon after her wedding, a grieving mother, a lonely friend whose acquaintances and neighbours had left her so suddenly. Nothing extraordinary- a housewife trapped in a kitchen fire, the local priest collapsing from a heart attack, a passing truck that had come at the wrong time.

And one day she was gone, just some small things missing from her house and a neat little note waiting for them in the parlour. She had been a kind woman like that, always considering others before herself. They didn’t know where she had gone, though they searched for months. Perhaps onto the railroad tracks or off the high rooftops in the city. Perhaps into the pond in the park.

------------------------------------------------

Note: Is it bad that I found the thought of Himawari's great aunt accidentally killing Doumeki's grandfather hi-larious?

Oooooh. That's really good. And I love how it connects in some of the plotlines from the series. And kinda sad too. I kinda wanna cry a little...

dammit, WHY are all my Holic fics slightly sad? Something is wrong with me! The last happy piece I've done was the ridiculously vapid Patissier.

Ummm... If it makes you feel better, I'm one who cries easily? ~.~ It doesn't take much to bring on the tears...

This meme was actually really fun. Now I kind of wish I had more friends to request things of me.

*Patpat* Maybe some people just haven't seen it yet?

yeah, probably. Before I considered my life interesting and got into the communities here, I used to check my LJ maybe every few months

ah right. Is this something I should post in the douwata community, or is it too general?

Probaly a bit too general for the DouWata comm. But I know there's a xxxHolic comm around here somewhere...

eh, posting it on douwata since I've tweaked the story a bit since then to give it more colour.

Holic lends itself to tragic fics well, and I think you write them beautifully. It's kinda awesome how you can pull the various bits of story together and make it all seems like something Yuuko would have called Hitsuzen.

Ah! You're so nice! ^__^ Thank you! I DO love weaving conspiracy theories through randomly gathered bits of information.

Though I must admit, I have lost my taste for tragic fics after the end of holic. I sort of want to write happy stories for a little while to combat the sad ending.

Ah that's understandable. Canon was rather a downer in the end there, so I'd more than welcome happy fics now. It's fun when fandom has a balance.

I &hearts Morianty... So much. :D

haha, fandom's doing a Frak You, Clamp fest and writing their own plots to Holic. I am so excited to see what comes out of it.

Unfortunately, Reichenbach Falls is happening in Sherlock season 2. T_T I don't want to lose Moriartyyy.

Lol, that's pretty much what fandom is for anyways.

Oh yes, its a pity they'll be tossing him out so soon, but it should be thrilling anyways :D

Yeah, I think the three hints were Adler, Hound, Reichenbach Falls.
Kind of disappointed with Hound. They could have picked a better story than Hound of the Baskervilles, but I suppose it's one of the most popular.

Yes they were. I'm with you on the hounds, but they may yet twist it around a bit. It is rather iconic. It'll be interesting to see how they modernize that particular story. Personally, I'm very interested in seeing what comes out of the Adler hint. I rather hope she isn't a love interest.

They did confirm (Cumberbatch did as well) that Sherlock is asexual as he was in the books (damn the Ritchie interpretation).

I like that a lot. I'm not really partial to women primarily showing up as love interests. Usually it makes the character shallow and doesn't allow the female character to develop beyond just a love-interest for the main character.
GO, Adler!

Oh I had heard Cumberbatch's interpretation but I didn't know the writers were making it official! Thats good news. I rather prefer Sherlock as asexual. Especially in this canon where it does fit marvelously. Despite the Richie versions misgivings, I RDJ is a rather 'sexual' man and so his character hooking up with Irene was very believable.

But as you said, as a non-love interest, Irene is rather BAMF. I hope that carries out well in the second season.

I think this series has a lot of potential bamfs. Anthea, oh man. I'm reading this great fanfic where she and John are framed by Moriarty and are now on the run. And Mycroft and Sherlock think they're traitors. Oh man, BAMF-ing abounds.

I would really like to see Mummy Holmes, perhaps because so many fics have her as Matron Badass.

Oh yes Anthea. Dear me that woman has some major potential. She looks like the type to kill you with her high heels.

Oh Mummy Holmes would be interesting (I especially enjoy the crack crossovers where she's M from James Bond), but there are some indications we might find out more about the Holmes patriarch since Cumberbatch had hinted at something in one of the commentaries.

Oh, really? Interesting. A lot of fanfics don't really focus on Sherlock's dad. I remember there's a fan soundtrack with a young Judy Dench on the cover, so the M reference makes sense now.

I read a series that hinted Mycroft was the first M from James Bond and the Diogenes Club was a front for the British Secret Service. Good stuff.
