The French Connection
Jul. 20th, 2010 01:16 amSo I'm talking on Skype to the wife about 1AM, and suddenly I hear this knocking on the door. I look out and there's a French girl with silver dyed hair in a yukata knocking on my neighbour's door. And she's like, "Sophie! WHERE IS SOPHIE? Have you seen Sophie?! She lives here, blonde, 18. We just got here yesterday night."
Yesterday. Night. So of course I have no idea.
And she's running down the hallway hissing, "Sophie! Sophie!" I thought she was drunk. And she kept calling her, "Sophie, 18," or "The girl, 18." Is this French revenge for an Indian, and Russian, and an Italian having some laughs about them yesterday?
She was saying how Sophie didn't think she liked Japan and wanted to go back to France. (Arrived. Yesterday. Night. You know what I did on my first night here? I bought some dumplings and slept like the dead) And she was really frantic, because she didn't know where Sophie had gone. And apparently since I was a total stranger, she regaled me with a story about how when she was 16, Sophie'd had thoughts of suicide. I was...uncomfortable?
And then after calling a whole bunch of people out of doors and exclaiming, they all went back inside as if in unison and the hallway was deserted.
"Wait," I said to the girl, who was running up the staircase. "What happened?"
"Oh, it's okay now," she replied unconcernedly, and left.
Uh...uh?
