Calling all writers in small fandoms: consider signing up for the smallfandombang, a variant of the popular smallfandomfest. Not a writer? Do you love to make art/music/other? You can work with an author to do art for their story.

Signups end October 31, final work is due in May with some regular check-ins, and the group has a great support system. I did this challenge last year and had so much fun! I'm doing it again this year. DO IT TOO. WE CAN BE BROS TOGETHER.

Dear flist who loves Person of Interest ([livejournal.com profile] grimmsical, [livejournal.com profile] aliaswestgate, [livejournal.com profile] angstbunny, anyone else?), would you like to tinychat during next week's episode or the day after (since I know we are all in different time zones)? I think it would be pretty fun. The Irrelevants chat room is okay, but there is a lot of flailing, and it can be hard to get a word in edgewise.

grimmsical, are you watching this new season of Person of Interest? Because Finch's reluctant bonding with Bear is killing me dead. Dead.

So I had some vanilla vodka leftover from making White Russian cupcakes, and I started poking around my kitchen trying to find something to mix it with. I came up with what I call a White Israel, because this drink contains milk and honey, and Israel is traditionally referred to as 'the land of milk and honey.'

Combine in an old-fashioned glass:

1 tsp honey
3 tsp water

Dissolve the honey. You can heat it up in the microwave to speed it along, but keep it under 15 seconds to make sure it doesn't get too hot. Add:

1/2 tsp instant coffee (or however much, to taste)

Dissolve the coffee entirely. Add:

Ice
2 oz. vanilla vodka (or 2 oz regular vodka and 1/4 tsp vanilla extract,)

Fill the rest of the glass with milk. I used 2% since this is what I had in the fridge, but the drink will probably be thicker with whole. Don't ask me about cream: I haven't tried it.

This thing is freaking delicious. I drink it all the time, and I usually don't like sweet drinks. I think the bitterness of the coffee helps, and I usually buy local blackberry honey, which isn't as sweet as the processed kind.

Seriously, by the time I finished typing this up, I've already finished half the glass. This is so not good for my alcohol consumption quota...

It's never cool to start off a review with something like, 'I expected to be totally bored with this story, but I was surprised.'

Really? Because I came in thinking you would leave a review like a civil person. I GUESS WE'RE ALL SUBVERTING EXPECTATIONS TODAY, AREN'T WE?

Is anyone familiar with concepts of Dreaming (the spirituality), and/or how it extends to art? I'm writing a Warehouse 13 fic right now (it's a Steve/Joshua fic, but that's not relevant to this post) in which Steve gets sucked into Tjapaltjarri's famous Warluglong and the team's subsequent efforts to save him.

I'm not very familiar with Dreamings, but I've tried to do a lot of research to make sure I'm doing it right, and I would like a second eye to evaluate the accuracy of that particular area. You wouldn't have to read the story (whose later chapters are not complete anyway) if you didn't want to. I would just tell you what things I've written about so far, and you would tell me if they were accurate.

If you are someone or know someone who could lend me some advice, I would greatly appreciate it!

I'm watching The Hitcher again, and I know that the film is supposed to be a little stylised and require some suspension of disbelief, but I wonder at how John is somehow in all the places Jim runs away to, and after watching the film a few times in the past, I wonder if Jim is dead, since all the events of the film happen after he falls asleep at the wheel.

Just saw The Dark Knight Rises. Highlights of the film, no spoilers. This film gave me No Man's Land arc feelings (especially with the chalked Batman graffiti), which are the best feelings.

I have a collective crush on all the Dark Knight actors )

Currently, I'm surrounded by a vase of lavender spider chrysanthemums I found at the store, a bottle of Chateau St. Michelle Riesling, two blueberry pies waiting to be baked (berry pies are so very beautiful in the making), a used measuring cup filled with metal measuring spoons and a graceful tumble of squeezed lemons, and a new painting project I've undertaken, which means most of my dining table will be covered in newspaper.

Sometimes I think about the ways I want my life to turn out, and some days they come true.

I've done a Big Wolf on Campus pimp for [livejournal.com profile] smallfandomfest here. Please tell me what you think of it. It's not really my best, and I don't know what I can do to capture the essence of the show. It's so hard to pin down. Suggestions?

Warehouse 13 is coming back for Season 4 on July 23 after a truly nerve wracking finale. Here are some of my thoughts on themes/plot lines that may come up in the new episode.

1) HG
I know everyone desperately wants HG to come back because she and Myka are in love forever and ever. I am behind this. I am SOO behind this. I also got mildly dizzy by the she's evil/she's not back and forth from S2 and S3 and also her bronzing/debronzing/death/revival whatevs. And YES, that can definitely be her thing because it was Daniel Jackson's thing too, and no one cared. But I think they should stop seesawing with characters to toy with our emotions, because at some point, we are going to lose emotional interest in the character. (The Firefly Effect, essentially) This seems more like what they were going for, and I do not like.

So I say, either bring her back for good and make an honest woman out of Myka  (or let her stay in some capacity like the hologram) or send her off for good. Doing otherwise without the humour of Daniel Jackson and other Lazarus-like characters could destroy the character. Speaking of which...

2) Steve Jinks
In one of the interviews they did with Aaron Ashmore, it seems like they had a whole backstory on Jinks that they were excited to reveal, but I'm not sure if he's going to be a casualty of war and written out (or come back in a Simba I Live Through You cameo for one episode, which is the same thing) or if they're really going to bring him back. I liked his brother dynamic with Claudia, who otherwise interacts with people far older than her. I think they're good for each other, especially since Joshua is MIA. (I don't know what it is I subconsciously love about obscure pairings, but I've been writing oodles of Jinks/Joshua fic lately)

One theory I have for him is that he will be the Warehouse's new caretaker. It would be useful to have one that could tell whether or not someone was lying, and he doesn't seem to have or mention any existing biological family or romantic partners. That could be one way of keeping him alive (I'm guessing they're bringing the Warehouse back? Although it would be cool to have a team with no Warehouse, and they have to put together another one). I would say that would be HG's job, since she knows the Warehouse flawlessly, but something tells me the Regents won't let her have that kind of power.

3) The pocket watch.
I was looking up anything about famous pocket watches and found this:

A famous train wreck on the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railway in Kipton, Ohio on April 19, 1891 occurred because one of the engineers' watches had stopped for four minutes. The railroad officials commissioned Webb C. Ball as their Chief Time Inspector, in order to establish precision standards and a reliable timepiece inspection system for Railroad chronometers. This led to the adoption in 1893 of stringent standards for pocket watches used in railroading.

So maybe there's something about a 'four minutes to avert disaster' thing, perhaps with stopping time? It would be neat if they did this in a Groundhog Day episode with several variations. (They bring back Mrs. Frederick, Jinks, or HG with varying results, etc)

4) Claudia goes rogue
Claudia's run away from the Warehouse or antagonised it a few times (as Mr. Knock Knock in Season 1, when accused of betraying it at the beginning of Season 2), and I think she could do it again. She's furious enough with the Regents. She might leave and do her own thing for a while. Some of the promos had her in really dark clothes (standard I've Gone to the Dark Side stuff), so I wonder if she'll track down other people who have used the metronome to strong arm information out of them. She does seem to think the Regents are dragging their feet and see the Warehouse agents as disposable pawns. (I remember Myka echoing this in the Lewis Carroll's mirror episode)

What are some of your predictions about Season 4? I can't wait till July 23, guys. I really can't.
